Chesapeake High School
Chesapeake High School (CHS) is a vibrant community hub for the Pasadena Peninsula and surrounding areas.
In response to overcrowding at Northeast High School, Chesapeake High School was established in 1976. Since then, it has been dedicated to fostering a supportive and stimulating atmosphere where student individuality is embraced. Its mission is to challenge the youth to become self-directed problem solvers and equip them with the skills needed for success. Learners engage in Advanced Placement (AP) courses, Early College Access Programs (ECAP), and Career and Technical Education (CTE). They also gain real-world experience through career internships and partnership opportunities.
AP COURSES: Chesapeake High School’s rating of 8/10 from GreatSchools.org reflects how it fosters academic excellence through its challenging curriculum. Its Advanced Placement (AP) programs are extensive, offering courses such as Statistics, Calculus, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Psychology, United States History, World History, European History, United States Government & Politics, English Language & Composition, English Literature & Composition, Music Theory, Art, and Computer Science. With diverse subjects, students can explore various disciplines, pursue interests, gain exposure to new areas of study, and make informed decisions about their future career paths.
INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS: The Information Management Signature program teaches information ethics, cybersecurity, and other relevant topics. The goal is to help them navigate and succeed in an increasingly data-driven and digital world. The business department offers the chance to earn Microsoft Certification and complete the Computer Science program. The Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) department further enriches the options with Early Childhood and Culinary Arts. The institution also stands out in providing internship opportunities, with more Chesapeake seniors securing positions at the National Security Agency than any other school in Anne Arundel County. Students get a head start in their careers, providing real-world experience and valuable industry connections.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: Chesapeake High School offers over 80 extracurricular and co-curricular opportunities from dance, bands, chorus, and arts. However, one area that brings exceptional pride is its athletics program. The campus is well-equipped with sports facilities and gymnasiums that provide ample space for students to train, compete, and thrive. It’s no wonder Chesapeake High School has bagged several titles for baseball, softball, and wrestling. It also holds a marching band championship and a soccer championship belt. These highlight the dedication and talent of the student-athletes and coaches. This dynamic environment fosters well-rounded, active, and engaged young individuals.
